Sun Salutations, or Surya Namaskar, are a moving meditation that link breath with movement to awaken the body and mind. Traditionally practiced at sunrise, this sequence helps energize the body, awaken inner vitality, and generate gentle heat from within.

At Joanna Grace Yoga, we approach this classic sequence with mindfulness and care — honoring the balance between strength and softness.

Each posture in the Sun Salutation is designed to open and align the body: lengthening the spine, strengthening the core, and awakening circulation through every joint and muscle. But the true power lies in the breath. When movement follows breath, the parasympathetic nervous system begins to activate, allowing true energy to be cultivated while also bringing a sense of ease — a perfect way to prepare for the day ahead.

For those recovering from pain, stiffness, or injury, Sun Salutations can always be modified to meet your body where it is today. Gentle transitions, mindful pauses, and slower pacing help the practice feel supportive rather than demanding.

Physically, this sequence builds mobility and balance. Energetically, it invites clarity, grounding, and gratitude — a daily opportunity to reconnect with yourself and begin anew.

As you move through your Sun Salutations, remember: it’s not about perfection or speed. It’s about presence — one breath, one movement, one moment at a time.
