Yoga Beyond the Physical Poses

Yoga is an ancient practice that was once reserved only for the highest-ranking members of society. Its teachings were considered so powerful that they were intentionally kept from the masses. Today, however, yoga is often mistaken for a fitness routine—something for flexible bodies, Instagram aesthetics, or a comparison to Pilates.
So how did yoga get lost in translation?
Somewhere along the way, we forgot that yoga was never truly about the poses. It was about awakening a wisdom that every human being carries. And when you think about it… doesn’t it make sense why such wisdom was guarded? A person who is connected to their own inner truth cannot be easily controlled by human-made systems. A person who knows their connection to Source is always available does not need a guru, a church, or a particular space to access it.
Our connection to spirit—our connection to Self—is already within us. It isn’t granted. It’s remembered.
When I first stepped into yoga, I had no intention of having a spiritual awakening. Mine came unexpectedly and changed the entire trajectory of my life. From that moment forward, nothing and no one could separate me from Spirit again. My faith was restored after years of feeling detached.
For so long, my scientific mind taught me I had to see something before I could believe it. Yoga showed me the opposite: once I began to believe, everything began to shift.
It took years to integrate these teachings into my nervous system, but the transformation became undeniable once I released my limiting beliefs and allowed myself to merge with Spirit. My body began to heal. My ability to receive—financially and creatively—expanded. Opportunities flowed from work I would happily do for free. These were the physical confirmations that I was living in alignment.
And then came the mental freedom.
I started waking up like a child again—full of awe, curiosity, and wonder for this beautiful world. Depression no longer had a grip on me. Something within me had changed, permanently. I wasn’t the same person, and I didn’t want to be.
This is yoga beyond the poses.
This is the yoga that remembers who we truly are.
